DESPITE PEACE TALKS, CABINET APPROVES PREFERENTIAL STATUS FOR SETTLEMENTS
Even as Israeli-Palestinian negotiators are to begin in two weeks and discuss, among other issues, the borders of a future Palestinian state, the cabinet on Sunday approved a new national priorities map that includes a number of small communities in Judea and Samaria beyond the security fence. Among the new settlements that will be eligible for preferential grants because of security reasons are Rehalim, Bruchin and Sansana which until a few months ago were considered illegal settlement outposts. Other new settlements on the list are Elon Moreh, Geva Binyamin, Ma’ale Michmash, Eshkalot and Negahot. At the same time, a number of settlements on the list in the past were removed, including the haredi commuity of Beitar Ilit, Efrat in Gush Etzion, and Kedar, near Ma’ale Adumim. Hatnua ministers Tzipi Livni and Amir Peretz abstained in the vote on the new list, but spoke out against including small, isolated settlements on the list. Yesh Atid ministers Yael German and Yaakov Peri also abstained. Fifteen ministers voted in favor. “This is a list of political, not national, preference, ” Peretz said. He also objected that Kiryat Malachi and Kiryat Gat were left off the list because of their proximity to the center of the country. More
PRESBYTERIAN ‘CHURCH’ USA REJECTS POPULAR WORSHIP SONG FOR HYMNAL OVER LYRICS CITING ‘WRATH OF GOD’
One of the most popular worship songs being sung in churches around the world today has been rejected for the hymnal of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) due to the song’s lyrics that speak of the wrath of God. The hymn at issue is In Christ Alone, penned by Keith Getty and Steward Townend. In the second verse of the song, the lyrics proclaim, “‘Til on that cross as Jesus died/The wrath of God was satisfied/For every sin on Him was laid/Here in the death of Christ I live.” Members of the PCUSA originally wanted to include the worship song in their hymnal since it is so popular, but disagreement soon began to stir over the lyrics. The denomination then contacted the songwriters and asked if instead of “the wrath of God was satisfied,” the lyrics could be “the love of God was magnified.” Getty and Townend refused. Mary Louise Bringle, member of the PCUSA committee, recently explained the debate that ensued over whether or not to include the song in the denomination’s hymnal. More
FUKUSHIMA SHAKEN BY STRONG 6.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE
EARTHQUAKE ALERT: A strong undersea earthquake has hit the same northeastern region of Japan that was devastated by a deadly 2011 tsunami. No damage or injuries have been reported in the affected area, including the Fukushima prefecture. The 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Miyagi prefecture on Sunday. The epicenter was 50 kilometers below the seabed. No tsunami warning was issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency. Some roads and railways were, however, temporarily closed for safety checks, according to NHK TV broadcaster, cited by AP. The quake struck at approximately the same location where a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit in March 2011, triggering a massive tsunami which led to multiple meltdowns at the Fukushima nuclear plant. Over 15,000 people died as a result of the natural disaster and more than 3,200 went missing. The Fukushima reactors were not impacted by the tremors on Sunday, according to Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), which runs the facility. Another nuclear power plant in the earthquake-hit area, the Onagawa facility in Miyagi prefecture, has also reported no damages. More
EGYPTIAN SHALL FIGHT EGYPTIAN: EGYPT HURTLING TOWARD CIVIL WAR?
Isaiah 19 – The burden against Egypt. Behold, the Lord rides on a swift cloud, And will come into Egypt; The idols of Egypt will totter at His presence, And the heart of Egypt will melt in its midst. 2 “I will set Egyptians against Egyptians; Everyone will fight against his brother, And everyone against his neighbor, City against city, kingdom against kingdom. 3 The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst; I will destroy their counsel, And they will consult the idols and the charmers, The mediums and the sorcerers. 4 And the Egyptians I will give Into the hand of a cruel master, And a fierce king will rule over them,” Says the Lord, the Lord of hosts.
As demonstrations increase in intensity in Egypt between the military backers and Muslim Brotherhood supporters, concern mounts that the conflict could lead to major confrontations and civil war, according to a report in Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin. Members of the Muslim Brotherhood have ratcheted up demonstrations demanding the reinstatement of President Mohammad Morsi, who was elected last year but ousted by the military after one year in office. These demonstrations have resulted in increased clashes with the military, raising concerns the confrontations could become more widespread. Now, the military has added fuel to the fire by accusing Morsi of conspiring with the Palestinian militant group Hamas in killing some 14 guards, while getting help in his 2011 escape from prison. As WND recently reported, the Brotherhood also has announced the creation of the Egyptian Free Army, a reflection of a similar army created by the opposition in Syria to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. A civil war has been under way there for two years, and some 100,000 people have been killed. The latest developments in Egypt present a conflict in U.S. policy. On the one hand, the U.S. has not supported the Muslim Brotherhood but has been forced to back the democratic process that elected Morsi. U.S. ally Saudi Arabia, however, is delighted with the ouster of the Brotherhood, since it does not back monarchies but wants them replaced with Islamic caliphates. More

Kilonova: Dead-Star Crashes May Spark Mysterious Cosmic Explosions
Cataclysmic crashes involving black holes and ultradense neutron stars may explain the briefest of the most powerful explosions in the universe, scientists say.
NASA scientists are calling the new type of short, but intense, cosmic collision and conflagration a “kilonova,” an explosion so powerful it is 1,000 times stronger than a typical star explosion, called a nova. Such events have long been predicted by astronomers, but never seen until now, researchers said. The discovery could shed light on the origin of heavy elements such as gold and platinum, they added.
Gamma-ray bursts are the most intense outbursts ever detected, giving off as much energy in an instant as our sun will beam out during its entire 10-billion-year lifetime. A nearby burst directed at Earth could easily cause a mass extinction, researchers say. [See more photos of the “kilonova” gamma-ray-burst explosion]
There are two kinds of gamma-ray bursts — ones that are longer-lived, lasting more than two seconds, and less common short-lived ones, lasting about two seconds or less.continue
39 CHRISTIAN STUDENTS IN ERITREA REPORTEDLY BEATEN, IMPRISONED FOR FAILING TO ‘RENOUNCE CHRIST’
On July 13, after completing eight months of academic studies and four months of military training — a requirement in Eritrea — 17,000 students of the 26th national service intake graduated. The 39 Christian students mentioned above were not granted this privilege, though.
Instead of following the procedural progression to Senior Secondary school to complete grade 12, these students, including 11 females who have also completed the training, were sentenced to severe military punishment at Sawa Military training center. Their offense? Holding “Christian beliefs” and having “commitment to Christ.” continue
