The Sign of a True Apostle (It’s Not What You Think)

A few years ago I heard a preacher tell a room full of ministers that they couldn’t work miracles or exercise apostolic authority unless they used the word apostle as a title. So some of them ran out and printed new business cards—as if putting the word in front of their names was the magic ticket to reclaiming New Testament power. That was a bad idea. For the past 15 years or more, thousands of people have been wounded and countless churches have nosedived because immature leaders thought they could gain apostolic status the easy way. We are so eager to qualify ourselves that we forget God alone calls, prepares and sends true apostles. The late Arthur Katz, who was a prophetic voice to our movement for many years, wrote in his 1999 book Apostolic Foundations that nobody should be eager to step into an apostolic assignment or to treat such a task flippantly. “God is jealous over the word apostolic,” Katz wrote. “It is a word that has fallen into disuse and needs to be restored, and that restoration is not going to be cheap.” We are so carnal, so power hungry and so enamored with status and position that we don’t have a clue what apostolic ministry really is. Most charismatics think it is about authority, and many men who claim to be apostles build top-down pyramid structures that abuse people. Others think apostolic leaders are marked primarily by sensational miracles. Yet I see something we have entirely missed when I look at the life of the apostle Paul.  More

16 million Americans to lose health care coverage under Obamacare

Once upon a time, not so long ago, in an attempt to sell government takeover of the nation’s healthcare system, Barack Obama played the role of serial liar. While the bill that would later become known as Obamacare wound its way through a Democrat-controlled House and Senate in 2009-2010, Obama jetted around the country telling every crowd and every reporter one whopper after another about what would happen to their health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act. ”Let me be exactly clear about what health care reform means to you,” Obama said at one rally in New Jersey in July 2009. “First of all, if you’ve got health insurance, you like your doctors, you like your plan, you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan. Nobody is talking about taking that away from you.” That was then. As it is turning out, however, Obama’s “promise” was just a lie – millions of Americans have now had their health insurance policies canceled by insurers, because they don’t meet the requirements mandated by Obamacare. More

Obamacare could be ruled illegal in 36 states, federal judge allows lawsuit to move forward

Supporters of Obamacare, including the president himself, say that once the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the law’s individual mandate wasn’t a mandate at all, but a tax, and therefore lawful under the Constitution, that was the end of it. The Affordable Care Act indeed survived its legal challenge, despite Chief Justice John Robert’s bit of creative writing to make the law “constitutional.” But that doesn’t mean it is a matter of settled law. At least, that’s the way one federal judge sees it. As reported by Britain’s Daily MailThe Affordable Care Act forbids the federal government from enforcing the law in any state that opted out of setting up its own health care exchange, according to a group of small businesses whose lawsuit got a key hearing Monday in federal court. The Obama administration, according to their lawsuit, has ignored that language in the law, enforcing all of its provisions even in states where the federal government is operating the insurance marketplaces on the error-plagued Healthcare.gov website. More

Belgium considering whether to allow sick CHILDREN to end their own lives through euthanasia if their parents approve

Children could be given the right to end their own lives in Belgium as the government considers new euthanasia laws. Euthanasia is already legal for people over the age of 18 in the country and now it may be extended to cover children which is something no other country has done. The same bill would offer the right to die to adults with early dementia.  Advocates argue that euthanasia for children, with the consent of their parents, is necessary to give families an option in a desperately painful situation. But opponents have questioned whether children can reasonably decide to end their own lives. Belgium is already a euthanasia pioneer and it legalized the practice for adults in 2002.  In the last decade, the number of reported cases per year has risen from 235 deaths in 2003 to 1,432 in 2012, the last year for which statistics are available. Doctors typically give patients a powerful sedative before injecting another drug to stop their heart. More

15 Hawaii animals and plants added to endangered list

HONOLULU (AP) — An eyeless shrimp and 14 other Hawaii creatures and plants have been added to the endangered species list, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said. The anchialine pool shrimp is among the most primitive shrimp species in the world, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported. The creatures are 2 inches long with 2-inch antennae. They live in landlocked pools with subterranean connections to the sea, but these pools are threatened by pollution, development and other factors, Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman Ken Foote said. The nonprofit group Center for Biological Diversity maintains that only five members of the shrimp species have ever been seen. The other newly listed creature is Drosophila digressa, commonly known as the picture-wing fly. Among the 13 plants listed is kookoolau, which was traditionally used to treat infections and other ailments, the Fish and Wildlife Service said. It was also used to purify the body, and herbal teas were made from its leaves to treat throat and stomach pains, according to the agency. The listing gives species protections that are designed to keep them from extinction. Hawaii has more endangered species than any other state, primarily because of its geographical isolation, Foote said. With the additions made Tuesday, Hawaii has listings for 526 species, Foote said. California comes closest with about 315 listings, according to the service’s Environmental Conservation Online System. Most states have double-digit listings. The additions stem from a 2011 agreement with conservation groups for the wildlife service to catch up on a backlog of candidates for the Endangered Species Act list, and to consider 757 total species for federal protections, according to the Center for Biological Diversity, which is based in Arizona. The 15 new species — all native to the Big Island — represent the fourth wave of endangered listings for Hawaii under the 2011 agreement, Foote said. Federal wildlife protection officials previously added 48 species on Kauai, 23 on Oahu, and 38 on Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe combined, he said. The agency likely will list more vulnerable Hawaiian species — mainly those that are found across multiple islands, he said. Yahoo

Killer Robots With Automatic Rifles Could Be on the Battlefield in 5 Years

Robots armed with automatic weapons, anti-tank missiles and even grenade launchers are marching, er, rolling ever closer to the battlefield now that they’ve shown they can actually hit what they’re supposed to. Four robotics companies — HDT Robotics, iRobot, Northrop Grumman and QinetiQ — recently ran their M240 machine gun-armed robots through a live-fire demo at Fort Benning in what has been dubbed the “Robotic Rodeo.” The point was to give the brass a chance to see just how viable such systems are. The Army, which issued a favorable assessment of the technology last week, doesn’t see our armed robotic overlords as weapons taking the place of boots on the ground, but rather as combatants working alongside troops in the field. “They’re not just tools, but members of the squad. That’s the goal,” Lt. Col. Willie Smith, chief of Unmanned Ground Vehicles at Fort Benning told Computerworld. “A robot becoming a member of the squad, we see that as a matter of training.” Senior Army officers attending the rodeo appeared satisfied with the robots after seeing them accurately hit targets 500 feet away, and they hope to see battle ‘bots in action within five years. “We were hoping to see how they remotely control lethal weapons,” said Smith. “We were pleased with what we saw here. The technology is getting to be where it needs to be.” More

DAYS OF LOT – U.S LGBT leaders praise Tel Aviv’s support for Gay Center

American LGBT leaders from advocacy organizations, government and academia visited the Gay Center, owned and operated by the city of Tel Aviv. “None of us are aware of another municipality where they are solely funding the LGBT community center,” said Malcolm Lazin, executive director of the Equality Forum, a national and international LGBT civil rights organization with an educational focus.  LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. Lazin is leading the delegation of LGBT leaders on a week-long seminar in Israel that began Monday with a goal of exploring partnerships and collaborations with their Israeli counterparts, while learning about the difficult issues facing Israel and the region. The seminar is under the auspices of Project Interchange, a non-profit educational institute of the American Jewish Committee. More

Attacks on Christians by Islamic militants rise in Egypt

CAIRO – A top leader of the Muslim Brotherhood was arrested Wednesday by the military government. It’s part of the crackdown on the Brotherhood, which advocates a strict Islamic government. Essam El-Erian went into hiding when the military ousted President Mohammed Morsi. Since then, Islamic militants have stepped up attacks on Christians.  In a packed church in a poor Cairo neighborhood, mourners grieved for their dead: Five Christians mowed down by masked gunmen as they arrived for a wedding. Khalil Masiha lost two of his granddaughters in the attack. Maryam was just 8 years old. ”I found little Maryam; she was hit by 14 bullets,” said Masiha. “A little girl, hit by 14 bullets.” The shooting was the latest in a wave of attacks against Egypt’s Christian minority, which makes up about 10 percent of the country’s population. Christians say they are being targeted by hardliners in the Muslim Brotherhood after they backed the military’s crackdown on the Islamic group. It’s a charge the Muslim Brotherhood denies. More

Doomsday vault: Inside the ice cave full of seeds for the Earth’s rebirth after Armageddon

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault, located on an Arctic island near Norway, can withstand a nuclear strike and houses more than two billion seeds. The secure building, which was opened in 2006, aims to preserve the world’s food supply in the face of climate change, war and natural disasters. It costs £4million and protects up to 4.5million variety of seeds from nearly ever country in the globe. The seedbank, dug into a frozen mountainside above the town of Longyearbyen, holds duplicate collection of seeds including staples such as wheat and peas. The seeds in the vault, which are housed free of charge, can only be accessed once the original collections have been lost. They are stored inside sealed envelopes and placed in plastic tote containers on metal shelves which are then kept at a temperature of -18C. A limited oxygen supply in the vault coupled with the low temperature stops the seeds from ageing. In case electricity inside the facility fails the permafrost surrounding it helps to maintain temperatures at a low level. The incredible pictures were taken by photographer Jim Richardson which show a rare glimpse of the work being taken to protect us in case of an unforeseen disaster. More

UN envoy: Status of Jerusalem must be resolved

There is “no real prospect for peace” between Israelis and Palestinians unless the status of Jerusalem is resolved, the top UN envoy to the peace process said on Wednesday. Robert Serry’s brief address to a conference in Jerusalem came in the middle of a tense week, which featured a prisoner release, announcement of settlement construction and the trading of fire between the IDF and terrorists in Gaza. Serry is the UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process. “Without resolving Jerusalem, there will be no solution,” he said. “The [UN] secretary general believes that a way has to be found for Jerusalem to emerge as a capital for two states.” Serry said both sides had “committed themselves” to addressing the status of Jerusalem, and he praised the involvement of the United States in jump-starting negotiations. But he warned there is pervasive apathy among Israelis and Palestinians, and he called on leaders in both communities to galvanize a public movement for peace. “Let’s face it, almost nobody believes that these talks will have a positive outcome,” he said. “If you yourself believe in a twostate solution, then this is indeed a time for renewed action.” The conference was organized by the Peace NGO Forum with support from the European Union. More

Fireballs spotted in the skies over Portland Metro, Tokyo Japan, Scotland and Netherlands

PORTLAND — Several people in the Portland Metro area reported seeing a fireball in the sky early Wednesday morning, moving east to west. Three different viewers contacted KGW to say they had seen it just before 6 a.m. ”I was out walking my dog this morning around 5:55 a.m. and saw what looked like someone lit a tennis ball on fire and threw it,” viewer John Kisling said. “It took a couple seconds to traverse the sky.” Portlander Tony King told KGW he saw the fireball from his back porch Wednesday morning and it took several seconds to move “across the whole sky, from east to west, along the horizon line.” Dick Pugh of Portland State University’s Cascadia Meteorite Labratory told KGW it was a piece of an asteroid burning up when it hit the atmosphere. ”Fireballs are not uncommon,” said Pugh. “The question is: Did it make it all the way down?” Pugh said most pieces of “space debris” burn up when they hit the atmosphere. But some push through and hit the ground, becoming meteorites. Those are accompanied by a loud sound. Witnesses in the Portland area Wednesday agreed the fireball was silent. More

Earth 2? Scientists study rocky, Earth-sized planet 700 light years away

Is it home away from home? A planet with a similar mass and size to our own planet Earth, likely similarly composed of rocks and iron, has been spotted orbiting a star some 700 light years away in the constellation Cygnus, scientists announced Wednesday. But don’t expect to find your 2.0 living there. ”It’s Earth-like in the sense that it’s about the same size and mass, but of course it’s extremely unlike the Earth in that it’s at least 2,000 degrees hotter,” said team member Josh Winn, an associate professor of physics at MIT and a member of the Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research. “It’s a step along the way of studying truly Earth-like planets.” The planet, deemed Kepler 78b, is lightning-quick compared to Earth, orbiting its star in just 8.5 hours. By contrast, it takes roughly 8,765.81 hours, or 365 days, for our planet to orbit the sun. Kepler 78b’s speedy transit of its homeworld was identified by scientists in August. More

WAR DRUMS? We never stopped 20% uranium enrichment – Iran

Iran’s nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi said Tehran has never stopped 20% uranium enrichment, denying earlier claims of a temporarily halt, parliament’s website reported Wednesday. ”Twenty percent uranium and nuclear plates are being produced inside the country and there has never been a halt in the production trend,” Salehi was quoted as saying. “Nuclear plates for Tehran reactor are produced inside the country, and the needed fuel assembly is allocated for the reactor each month,” he said. YNet News

Don’t Worry – The Government Says That The Inflation You See Is Just Your Imagination

If you believe that there is high inflation in the United States, you are just imagining things.  That is the message that the U.S. government and the Federal Reserve would have us to believe.  You might have noticed that the government announced on Wednesday that the cost of living increase for Social Security beneficiaries will only be 1.5 percent next year.  This is one of the smallest cost of living increases that we have ever seen.  The federal government is able to get away with this because the official numbers say that there is hardly any inflation in the U.S. right now.  Of course anyone that shops for groceries or that pays bills regularly knows what a load of nonsense the official inflation rate is.  The U.S. government has changed the way that inflation is calculated numerous times since 1978, and each time it has been changed the goal has been to make inflation appear to be even lower.  According to John Williams of shadowstats.com, if the inflation rate was still calculated the same way that it was back when Jimmy Carter was president, the official rate of inflation would be somewhere between 8 and 10 percent today.  But if the mainstream news actually reported such a number, everyone would be screaming and yelling about getting inflation under control.  Instead, the super low number that gets put out to the public makes it look like the Federal Reserve has plenty of room to do even more reckless money printing.  It is a giant scam, but most Americans are falling for it. More

U.S. F-35 fighter drops first guided bomb against ground target

WASHINGTON – The Lockheed Martin Corp F-35 fighter jet dropped a 500-pound bomb this week, hitting a tank at Edwards Air Force Base in California and marking the first time the new warplane has fired a laser-guided weapon, the Pentagon said Wednesday. An F-35 B-model jet released the Guided Bomb Unit-12 (GBU-12) Paveway II bomb from its internal weapons bay while flying at around 25,000 feet, successfully smashing into a tank parked on the ground, the Pentagon’s F-35 program office said in a statement. It took 35 seconds to hit the target. ”This guided weapons delivery test of a GBU-12 marks the first time the F-35 truly became a weapon system,” said Marine Corps Major Richard Rusnok, the pilot who flew the plane during the weapons test Tuesday. “It represents another step forward in development of this vital program.” More

ALERT: Moscow Conducts Large-Scale Nuclear Attack Drill

Russian strategic forces carried out a large-scale surprise military drill on Wednesday, launching four nuclear missiles that were closely monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies, U.S. officials said. The drill began around 9:00 am ET and included the test launch of two land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and two submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs). The test firings were unusual because of the number of missiles fired at one time, said officials who discussed some details of the drill on condition of anonymity. State Department spokeswoman Alexandra F. Bell confirmed the tests and said the long-range missile firings were “conducted consistent with the requirements of the New START Treaty.” At the Pentagon, spokeswoman Cynthia O. Smith said: ”With regard to Russia’s recent testing of its strategic forces missiles, the United States received the proper notifications prior to the launches.” Other officials said the tests were notified in advance to the U.S. government as required by a 1988 U.S.-Soviet agreement requiring advance notification of ICBM and SLBM launches. The agreement requires notifying the Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, run by the Pentagon, of the impending launches within four days of their launch. More

BREAKING NEWS – Huge Explosion at Syrian air defense base…

A Syrian air defense base near the coastal city of Latakia was reportedly destroyed Wednesday night, with multiple Syrian and Lebanese sources speculating that an Israeli strike from the Mediterranean was to blame. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported a loud explosion in a Syrian army base, and Twitter users quoted eyewitnesses who said the blast occurred near Snobar Jableh, just south of the city. Unconfirmed reports suggested the explosion was the result of a missile strike from the sea. And social media exploded with posts alleging that Israel was responsible. The Times Of Israel

Is Tehran making plans to ‘eliminate U.S. as an actor from the world stage’

It’s the reason Iran wants the bomb, and why North Korea continues to threaten the United States. America’s energy infrastructure is aging and vulnerable to devastation from countries that wish to do us harm as well as from our own sun, but Washington politicians and bureaucrats refuse to take simple, relatively inexpensive steps to solve the potentially disastrous problem. The most devastating threat is posed by an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, and a former member of the congressional EMP commission says both the North Korean and Iranian nuclear programs are focused on taking out our nation’s power grids. “It is why Iran wants the bomb. We know that from the EMP commission because, in their open source-military writings, they describe using a nuclear weapon to eliminate the United States as an actor from the world stage by means of an EMP attack,” said Dr. Peter Pry, who is also executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security. “Let’s not forget that earlier this year North Korea, which has the bomb and, in fact, we assess they probably have what are called super EMP nuclear weapons, which is a nuclear weapon specifically designed to make the EMP effect. That’s why all three of their nuclear tests have been so low yield. They’re designed to produce gamma rays, not a big explosion. It’s the gamma rays that make the EMP effect,” Pry told WND. “North Korea, in April, threatened to destroy the United States. The evidence is right there in the headlines if people would only pay attention to them.” More

‘Religious’ yoga in class has some bent out of shape

Attorneys on Wednesday said they have filed a notice of appeal of a California judge’s decision that even though yoga is a religious activity, it will be allowed in public schools. Officials with the National Center for Law and Policy said the double standard cannot be allowed to stand.  “A reasonable observing student who is informed about the government practice at issue here, yoga, would clearly understand that [Encinitis Union School District] is promoting religion,” said NCLP President Dean Broyles. “In fact since the advent of EUSD’s yoga program students have actually made and continue to make religious associations with the practice of yoga such as chanting ‘om’ in yoga class and spontaneously assuming the lotus position off campus while closing their eyes and meditating. I am quite certain this case would have been decided very differently if this were a Christian based P.E. program. This whole debacle is shameful and the EUSD superintendent and board of trustees should be embarrassed that this egregious breach of public trust has occurred on their watch with their approval.” More

DHS adviser compares Bible study to Islamist group’s indoctrination

He’s done it again. Department of Homeland Security adviser Mohamed Elibiary has penned yet another controversial tweet, this time likening the Muslim Brotherhood to evangelical Christians and comparing the Brotherhood’s indoctrination to Bible study groups.  WND found that Elibiary tweeted: “Ignorant #Islamophobes (redundant I know) protested my saying #MB like #Evangelicals. Usra like Bible study group.” The “MB,” or Muslim Brotherhood, seeks a worldwide Islamic caliphate ruled by Shariah, or Islamic law, and teaches followers to help establish an Islamic state wherever they live. An usra is a small teaching group devised by Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna to indoctrinate his followers. Brotherhood leaders form weekly meetings to teach the Islamist group’s methods and ideology. The Muslim Brotherhood’s Ikhwanweb website describes usra as the “smallest unit of MB structure which represents the practical area of MB spiritual education and Tarbiah (training).” More
