20 Facts About The Great U.S. Retail Apocalypse That Will Blow Your Mind

If the U.S. economy is getting better, then why are major retail chains closing thousands of stores?  If we truly are in an “economic recovery”, then why do sales figures continue to go down for large retailers all over the country?  Without a doubt, the rise of Internet retailing giants such as Amazon.com have had a huge impact.  Today, there are millions of Americans that actually prefer to shop online.  Personally, when I published my novel I made it solely available on Amazon.  But Internet shopping alone does not account for the great retail apocalypse that we are witnessing.  In fact, some retail experts estimate that the Internet has accounted for only about 20 percent of the decline that we are seeing.  Most of the rest of it can be accounted for by the slow, steady death of the middle class U.S. consumer.  Median household income has declined for five years in a row, but all of our bills just keep going up.  That means that the amount of disposable income that average Americans have continues to shrink, and that is really bad news for retailers. MORE

israel-pre-1967-borders-1949-armistice-day-six-day-warDeputy Foreign Minister Ze’ev Elkin (Likud) said on Sunday that holding negotiations with the Palestinian Authority (PA) based on the indefensible pre-1967 borders would be a “red line”. Speaking to Arutz Sheva, Elkin was asked to comment on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s comments in television interviews on Friday, where he said that not all the communities in Judea and Samaria will be part of Israel in a peace agreement. “In the final agreement that Netanyahu sees, if he has a partner, not all the communities will remain a part of Israel,” said Elkin. “This is one of the reasons that I am against a Palestinian state. There is controversy over Netanyahu’s view within the Likud, but right now this controversy is purely theoretical, because there is no one on the other side willing to pursue an agreement along the lines that Netanyahu is willing to, i.e. keeping Jerusalem united, not on the basis of the pre-1967 borders and with recognition of a Jewish state.” MORE

John Kerry Made A Troubling Threat Over Russia’s Annexation Of Crimea

U.S.Secretary of State John Kerry listens to a question from a reporter during a news conference at the U.S. Embassy in Rome March 6, 2014. On Saturday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that the Kremlin annexing Crimea would “close any available space for diplomacy.” The warning is disconcerting because there are three general ways that this crisis could play out: Russia keeps advancing into east and south Ukraine, Russia annexes Crimea and then applies further financial and political pressure on the new government in Kiev, or Russia makes limited concessions and the crisis de-escalates. By Kerry saying that the diplomatic window is closed if Russia annexes Crimea — which is almost a forgone conclusion — then the best path for de-escalation is obstructed. MORE

BREAKING NEWS: Object Spotted Floating Near Feared Crash Site of Missing Plane

Vietnam authorities have reportedly spotted an object floating in the ocean near two oil slicks that were discovered more than 24 hours ago. Officials can’t confirm that the object is debris from the missing Boeing 777, but are sending boats to the scene to investigate.  The search continues for the flight from Malaysia which was headed to Beijing when it fell off the radar and disappeared. There were 239 people aboard the plane. Malaysian officials say radar signals show that the plane may have tried to turn back before vanishing. The flight crew did not notify ground control about a change of course. Investigators are now focusing on two passengers who were traveling with stolen passports – an Italian-issued document under the name Luigi Maraldi and an Austrian passport bearing the name Christian Kozel. Both were stolen in Thailand. MORE

Global Debt Exceeds $100 Trillion as Governments Binge.

The amount of debt globally has soared more than 40 percent to $100 trillion since the first signs of the financial crisis as governments borrowed to pull their economies out of recession and companies took advantage of record low interest rates, according to the Bank for International Settlements. The $30 trillion increase from $70 trillion between mid-2007 and mid-2013 compares with a $3.86 trillion decline in the value of equities to $53.8 trillion in the same period, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The jump in debt as measured by the Basel, Switzerland-based BIS in its quarterly review is almost twice the U.S.’s gross domestic product. MORE

New complaint over Jews on Temple Mount

The Palestinian Authority’s mission to the United Nations last week filed an official complaint over a growing Jewish presence on and claims to Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. Riyad Mansour, the PA’s observer at the U.N., said that regular visits to the Temple Mount by Jewish worshippers and Israeli officials were “provocative” and could further enrage the entire Muslim Arab world. Mansour took special exception to the Israeli Knesset’s recent discussions about fully extending Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount, which is Judaism’s holiest site. The Palestinian official insisted that such action would violate all international laws and norms, and would destabilize the region. MORE

DID A MISSILE DOWN MALAYSIAN PLANE?

Just eight days after a terrorist attack in the city of Kunming dubbed “China’s September 11th,” a Malaysia Airlines flight carrying mostly Chinese passengers disappeared over the South China Sea.  While the international probe is in its early stages and questions are being raised about the prospect of terrorism, investigators would be wise to thoroughly examine the possibility of a missile attack in light of recent information about the global proliferation of such projectiles capable of downing civilian airliners. Further, China has issued a series of warnings about North Korean missiles, including one that crossed paths with a Chinese airliner carrying 220 people just last week. On Friday, China complained to North Korea when one of its missiles crossed paths with a civilian jet last Tuesday that had departed Tokyo’s Narita airport en route to the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang. MORE

OBAMA CUTS FUNDS FOR ISRAELI MISSILE DEFENSE

In the same week that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted a Gaza-bound shipment of Syrian missiles from Iran, President Barack Obama is asking Congress to reduce U.S. funding for Israel’s missile defense programs by $200 million, according to the Washington Free Beacon.
In a press statement reacting to the news, Republican Jewish Coalition executive director Matt Brooks said: “Today, the Israelis captured a ship carrying missiles from Iran destined for Gaza and earlier this week a rocket fired from Gaza fell in the Ashkelon region of Israel. The threats to Israel are real, constant, and serious. This is clearly not the time to step back from our support of Israel and her defense. Yet President Obama proposes significantly cutting U.S. funding for joint missile defense projects with Israel at this dangerous time.” MORE

Whole Foods Bans 54% of Food from Wal-Mart

It is amazing to me that the whole world seems to be waking up and realizing the problem with our food industry.  It seems that conversations we couldn’t have just 10 years ago for fear our friends would think we were total “granola hippies” are happening more frequently.  The awareness and connection between the rise in chronic illnesses and obesity is finally sinking in.  In a recent and very interesting study, Ben Blatt of Slate Magazine revealed some interesting statistics about offerings at Wal-Mart vs. Whole Foods. According to Blatt’s research, Whole Foods bans roughly 54% of Wal-Mart’s fare due to the presence, in its words, of “unacceptable ingredients for foods.” These 78 banned ingredients include everything from recognizable sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup to the tongue-tying dimethylpolysiloxane. The choices being made by Whole Food and other natural grocers are now becoming much more mainstream and as a result, places like Wal-Mart may begin losing ground. MORE

WAR DRUMS: Ukraine PM says will not give ‘an inch’ of land to Russia

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Sunday vowed Ukraine would not give “an inch” of its territory to Russia, at a rally of thousands of people in Kiev in honour of 19th-century national hero Taras Shevchenko. ”This is our land. We will not give an inch of it. Russia and its president should know that,” Yatsenyuk said after Russian forces and pro-Kremlin gunmen seized control of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula in the Black Sea. MORE

Netanyahu says any peace deal with Palestinians at least a year away

Israeli Prime Benjamin Netanyahu said any peace deal with the Palestinians would take at least another year to negotiate should both sides accept US-proposed principles to keep talks going.  In an Israel Radio interview broadcast on Sunday, Netanyahu reiterated that he regarded guidelines that US Secretary of State John Kerry is drafting for a future deal as an “American document of American positions”. Such a definition could give Netanyahu leeway to register reservations that could discourage staunch supporters of Jewish settlement in the West Bank where Palestinians want to make their state from bolting his coalition. MORE

U.S. deadly pig virus cases on the rise

Cases of the deadly Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus, a highly contagious pig disease, are increasing across the U.S. farm belt, a group of animal health researchers said. Confirmed cases of PEDv increased by 252 in the week ending March 1, bringing the total number to 4,106 in 26 states, according to data released on Thursday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Animal Health Laboratory Network. While one case can represent an individual animal or an entire herd at a single site, swine specialists estimate PEDv has killed at least 4 million U.S. hogs since it was discovered in May 2013. Pork processors were finding it more difficult to purchase hogs for slaughter due to the virus, which is starting to affect the pork supply and could eventually boost pork prices for consumers, industry sources said. MORE

A college student who reportedly went into a coma after being struck by a car last week woke up after her family and friends started singing hymns by her hospital bedside, and her mom is calling it “an amazing miracle.” Lexi Hansen, 18, a freshman at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, was heading to class and crossing the street near campus on a long board on Feb. 26 when she was hit by a car and suffered a brain injury. In a Thursday evening interview with ABC News, Marcia Hansen, the teen’s mother, said tests indicated her daughter had essentially been brain-dead when she was brought to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. Even though the girl had occasionally partially opened an eye, doctors said they weren’t sure she was conscious of it, but that changed on Sunday. After a day of fasting involving the family and tens of thousands of neighborhood friends and fellow members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Hansen opened her eyes and signaled to her family as they sang hymns by her beside in the hospital’s intensive care unit. MORE

BACK FOR MORE: Northeast and Midwest Face Midweek Winter Storm

Despite a springlike start to the week, winter and substantial snow will make a comeback across the Midwest and Northeast at midweek. Indications continue to point toward a winter storm taking shape across the lower Midwest states Tuesday night, then tracking through the Northeast to Atlantic Canada Wednesday through Thursday. The storm will drop a swath of substantial snow along the cold side of its path, threatening to cause yet another round of disruptions to travel and daily routines. Parents should prepare for a day or two of school cancellations. The corridor from central Indiana to northern New England has the greatest potential of being targeted by the substantial snow. MORE

HOW STATES AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS CAN OPT OUT OF COMMON CORE

States that want to opt out of the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) and/or the tests aligned to or based on its standards are being threatened by a toothless tiger that doesn’t want the states to know the tiger has no claws. States are hearing, “It’s too late to back out”; “You’ll waste all the money you’ve spent on implementing the [low-level Common Core] standards your state board of education adopted three years ago”; “You’ll waste all the money you’ve spent on [self-described] Common Core consultants who have given [very costly] professional development to your teachers and told them what to change in their classroom curriculum to address Common Core”; “You will have to pay back all the money you got under Race to the Top (RttT)”; or, “You will lose your waiver and not get your Title I money.” MORE

Abbas: 5 Million ‘Refugees’ Must be Allowed into Israel

Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas clarified his positions regarding the issues of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and the so-called “right of return” of Palestinian “refugees” in an appearance broadcast by PA TV, translated by MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute). It is worth watching, for anyone who harbors any doubts regarding what the “moderate” PA leader seeks, in the negotiations with Israel. Abbas states clearly: no Jewish communities will remain in the PA, and 5 million “refugees” worldwide, “from Canada to Japan” – including all of the descendants of Arabs who fled Israel in 1948 – will have the right to “return” to Israel. MORE

Ohio City Councilman Refuses to Stop Presenting Prayers in Jesus’ Name

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio – An Ohio city councilman has refused to stop presenting prayers in the name of Jesus despite having come under fire from a prominent atheist activist organization, as well as a number of area residents who find the prayer offensive. City Council members in Cuyahoga Falls recently received copies of a letter sent to the city from the Madison, Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF). The letter asserted that invocations during council meetings that end with “in Jesus’ name we pray” violate the U.S. Constitution. According to reports, city council meetings used to open with inspirational poems, quotes and/or a moment of silence, but since Councilman Terry Mader was appointed as chaplain this past January, prayers have been presented in Jesus’ name. It is not known how FFRF became involved in the matter, but the organization customarily sends letters to city officials following the receipt of a local complaint. MORE

‘Get Off the F***ing Campus!’: Anti-Israel Student Shouts, Wields Numerous F-Bombs to Try to Silence Campus Speaker

WARNING OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED: A shrill scene occurred last week at the National University of Ireland (NUI) whose students were set to vote on a motion to boycott Israel. Students voted in favor of the boycott, which is not binding on the university, but not before they saw a fellow student wildly shouting and cursing in an effort to silence a speaker presenting an opposing opinion to his. “You f***ing Zionist f***ing pricks. Get the f*** out,” shouted the student at the Wednesday event.  His supporters applauded enthusiastically to his outburst. As the speaker was at the podium, the pro-Palestinian student stood, gesticulated, wielded numerous F-bombs as he shouted various combinations of: “Get the f*** off our campus now!” and “Get off the f***ing campus!” It’s unclear if it was him or another protester who dealt another remark which could be viewed as an anti-Semitic slur. “We don’t want you and your Israeli money about here,” a male voice could be heard on the video that was posted on YouTube by the group Irish4Israel  MORE

DEVELOPING: Probe into missing Malaysia plane looks at possible mid-air disintegration

Officials investigating the disappearance of a Malaysian airliner with 239 people on board are narrowing the focus of their inquiries on the possibility that it disintegrated in mid-flight, a senior source said on Sunday. Malaysia Airlines flight 370 vanished after climbing to a cruising altitude of 35,000 feet between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing in the early hours of Saturday, but search teams have still not been able to make any confirmed discovery of wreckage in seas beneath the plane’s flight path almost 48 hours after it took off. ”The fact that we are unable to find any debris so far appears to indicate that the aircraft is likely to have disintegrated at around 35,000 feet,” said the source, who is involved in the investigations in Malaysia. MORE

DEVELOPING: More Suspicious Passports being investigated in Missing Malaysian Flight

Interpol is investigating more suspect passports used to board a missing Malaysia Airlines flight, in addition to two European ones that were falsely used by unidentified passengers, the global police agency said on Sunday. An Italian man and an Austrian man were falsely listed as passengers on Beijing-bound flight MH370, which disappeared after takeoff from Kuala Lumpur early on Saturday with 239 people aboard. Authorities later confirmed the two men – Austrian Christian Kozel and Italian Luigi Maraldi – were not on the plane, and their passports had been stolen in Thailand within the last two years. MORE

RUSSIAN FLAGS FLOOD LENIN SQUARE IN CRIMEA

Russian flags flooded Lenin Square in the centre of Crimea’s capital Simferopol Sunday as thousands rallied in support of Moscow’s takeover of the peninsula — vastly overwhelming a smaller pro-Ukraine demonstration nearby. Some 10,000 people joined the pro-Russia rally in Simferopol, chanting “Russia! Russia!” as a navy band played patriotic Russian songs and dancers twirled on stage. ”We will overcome all adversity, all obstacles and we will restore historic justice,” the newly installed pro-Russian prime minister of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, told the crowd. MORE

Ulf Ekman Converts to Roman Catholicism

During his Sunday morning service, Ulf Ekman announced the he and his wife, Birgitta, are converting to Roman Catholicism. Ekman is the founder of Word of Life, a megachurch in Uppsala, Sweden. News reports and blogs coming out of the nation reveal congregation was “partially stunned” after hearing what was packaged as a “special announcement.” The theme was “follow the Lamb wherever He goes.” “For Birgitta and me, this has been a slow process were we have gone from discovering new things, to appreciating what we have discovered, to approach and even learn from our fellow Christians,” Ekman says on his ministry website. “We have seen a great love for Jesus and a sound theology, founded on the Bible and classic dogma. We have experienced the richness of sacramental life. We have seen the logic in having a solid structure for priesthood, that keeps the faith of the church and passes it on from one generation to the next. We have met an ethical and moral strength and consistency that dare to face up to the general opinion, and a kindness towards the poor and the weak. And, last but not least, we have come in contact with representatives for millions of charismatic Catholics and we have seen their living faith.” MORE

DAYS OF LOT – Former Miss Kentucky Djuan Trent Comes Out As Lesbian

Former Miss Kentucky Djuan Trent has come out as queer. In a blog post written Feb. 20, Trent shared personal details about her journey. She discussed how she grappled with coming out over the years. She struggled with praying to the God she thought “made me ‘wrong.’” She was scared her honesty would cause her to lose those close to her. ”I believe that my sexuality is my own … and this is not kindergarten, so I don’t have to share it with anyone if I don’t want to. But it’s nice when you share, right?” she wrote. “I would love to one day live in a society where coming out is no longer necessary because we don’t make assumptions about one another’s sexuality and homophobia is laid to rest. For now, that is more of an ideal than it is a reality. But if you want see that ideal become a reality and you have the courage to change history.” MORE

FLORIDA CHURCH LEADERS INCREASINGLY BRINGING GUNS WITH THEIR BIBLES TO CHURCH

Armed and trained church leaders constitute a growing trend in Florida. According to Orlando’s News 13, a company called Bethel Defense is training “pastors and church leaders to use handcuffs, batons, and special lights that can be used to distract someone causing a problem.” They are also teaching church leaders “how to use stun guns and handguns.” Bethel Defense owner Craig Dixon said pastors and church leaders are taught in such a way as to keep the use of the gun as the “last alternative.”
Some Florida churches are also adding security cameras, “a team of volunteers to monitor each service,” and security teams to sweep the grounds “after each service.” Journey Christian Church’s Roddy Conner said they’ve added various security measures that they “don’t want to be too out front about.” Rather, he said they just want the peace of knowing “that they] are prepared.” MORE

World Bank Insider reveals “There Is A Huge Global Conspiracy”

Former Senior Counselor at the World Bank Karen Hudes has spent the last several years of her life working closely with whistle blowers from around the world to shed light on what she calls a “global conspiracy.” While working for the World Bank as a member of their legal team Hudes uncovered so much corruption that she could no longer keep quiet. She followed the proper channels to report her findings, going first to the organization’s Evaluation Department and country directors, and then to the U.S. Treasury Department and even the United States Congress. All of her requests were ignored, and in some cases, completely covered up. So she did what any honest person would do. She went public. Suffice it to say, she received the typical treatment you’d expect for a whistle blower. MORE

WARS N RUMORS OF WARS: China to ‘defend every inch’ of territory: foreign minister

China’s foreign minister on Saturday said his country would vigorously defend its sovereignty, declaring there was “no room for compromise” with Japan over territory or history. ”We will never bully smaller countries yet we will never accept unreasonable demands from smaller countries,” Wang Yi told reporters. ”On issues of territory and sovereignty, China’s position is firm and clear: We will not take anything that isn’t ours, but we will defend every inch of territory that belongs to us.” China is embroiled in disputes with several of its neighbours including the Philippines and Japan, with tensions centred on rival claims in the South China Sea and East China Sea. MORE

UPDATE: Ticket purchase adds mystery to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370

As multiple mysteries swirl around the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and around some of its passengers, a growing multinational fleet of dozens of ships and planes is pursuing a potentially promising lead. Late Sunday afternoon, Vietnam sent a boat to investigate a “strange object” spotted by a Singaporean search plane in the area, said Hung Nguyen with the Vietnamese National Search and Rescue Committee. Two reconnaissance aircraft from Australia have joined in the search, Malaysian acting Minister of Transportation Hishammuddin Hussein told reporters Sunday. In addition, the Chinese navy dispatched a frigate and an amphibious landing ship, according to a online post by the Chinese navy. The ships are expected to arrive on site Monday morning (Sunday night ET). MORE

Suicide bomber kills 9 at Iraq police checkpoint

A suicide bomber driving a car packed with explosives killed at least nine people and wounded 50 at a police checkpoint in the southern Iraqi city of Hilla, police officials said on Sunday. Iraq has been beset with political and sectarian violence for months. More than 700 Iraqis were killed and nearly 1,400 others were wounded in terrorist attacks and other violence in February, the United Nations has said. Sunday’s attack happened at the entrance of the city, the police officials told CNN. Hilla is a predominantly Shiite Muslim city and lies about 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of the capital Baghdad. Two Iraqi journalists who worked at state run Iraqiya TV died in the attack, the station reported. MORE

Students in Canada’s Capital Boycott Israeli Hummus

Students at the University of Ottawa, in the Canadian capital, have launched a campaign to have the kosher Sabra hummus banned from campus because of its alleged connection with “Israel apartheid,” reports the Fulcrum, the university’s student newspaper. Sabra is partly owned by the Strauss Group, a food products manufacturer that, according to the New York Times, financially supports the Golani Brigade of the Israeli Defense Forces. The Fulcrum reported that student groups Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) and the Palestinian Student Association (PSA), as well as the community group Young Jews for Social Justice (YJSJ), are among those involved in the campaign. MORE

Pilot on Way to Japan Says He Made Contact with Missing Malaysian Flight

A Boeing 777 pilot flying 30 minutes from the missing Malaysia Airlines plane told the New Straits Times in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia that he made contact with MH370 minutes after Vietnamese air traffic control asked him to message the plane. The captain, who declined to give his name, said his Narita, Japan-bound plane was well into into Vietnamese airspace when controllers — who could make contact — requested that he relay with his plane’s emergency frequency a message to MH370 so that it would establish its position. MORE

Ability to surveil everyone on planet ‘almost here’

The NSA and GCHQ will soon have the ability to spy on the entire planet, as their capabilities double every 18 months, Julian Assange told the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference on Saturday. The Wikileaks founder made a Skype appearance at the interactive technology festival, which is taking place in the city of Austin. “The ability to surveil everyone on the planet is almost there, and arguably will be there in a few years,”said Assange. “And that’s led to a huge transfer of power from the people who are surveilled upon to those who control the surveillance complex. It’s an interesting postmodern version of power.” MORE

SCHOOL GOES NUCLEAR ON STUDENT EXPRESSION

Administrators at a school in Tacoma, Wash., have gone nuclear over student expression, banning any and all statements of opinion or expression on posters in school hallways rather than allow a pro-life message to appear.  Word comes from the Thomas More Society of the decision by Wilson High School. The school had allowed promotions for a “gay”-straight alliance, but when the local Students for Life proposed adding their own posters to the mix, promoting a pro-life position, the school censored them. When the Thomas More Society wrote a letter pointing out the inconsistency, school officials responded by banning everything. “The new restrictive speech policy by the Wilson High School administration teaches a harmful message to their students,” said Peter Breen, vice president and senior counsel of the Thomas More Society. MORE

Russia Mulls Banning US Nuclear Arms Inspections

Russia’s Defense Ministry is considering a ban on US inspections of Russian nuclear weapons under the New START deal over the standoff in Ukraine, a ministry source told RIA Novosti on Saturday.
The ban would be a reaction to the US decision to suspend military cooperation with Russia over Ukraine, said the source, who requested anonymity. Russia has vehemently opposed Ukraine’s pro-Western government that was installed last month following street clashes between police and the opposition led by far-right nationalist groups. MORE

EVIDENCE MOUNTS FOR BIBLICAL PROPHECIES

Pastor Mark Biltz of El Shaddai Ministries, whose coming “Blood Moons” book and documentary describes what he views as a sign in the heavens, will be on the podium for the Prophecy in the News conference in Orlando March 28-30.  So will Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, whose prophecy-related book “Harbinger” kicked aside most competition on the New York Times bestsellers list for nearly two years. Dozens of other top Christian speakers also will be there. Bob Ulrich, a spokesman for the ministry organizing the event, says Biltz’s work about the “Blood Moons” has “brought everything to the forefront.” “Things have us looking for a false peace [in the Middle East]. They have us looking for a major, major conflict in the Middle East, maybe between Israel and their neighbors,” he told WND. MORE

Obama and Biden take vacations despite Ukraine crisis

President and Mrs. Obama will be vacationing after all, despite the escalating crisis in the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine. And for good measure, so will Vice President Joe Biden.  On Thursday, it looked as though events in Ukrainian were going to spoil the Obama’s long Florida weekend vacation plans, but the White House announced, not so fast. The Obamas will be staying on in Key Largo, Fla., while Biden will be relaxing by the pool with tropical drink in hand in the Virgin Islands, according to Fox News. MORE

Huckabee Warns of God’s fiery judgment.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) didn’t disguise his presidential ambitions on Thursday, touting his socially conservative bona fides and blasting both President Obama and Hillary Clinton in his Conservative Political Action Conference speech.  ”These are the things that I know. I know there is a God, and I know this nation would not exist had he not been the midwife of its birth. And I know that this nation exists by the providence of his hand, and if this nation forgets our God, then God will have every right to forget us,” Huckabee said. “I hope that we repent before we ever have to receive his fiery judgment.” Huckabee is making strong signs he’ll make another run for the White House in 2016, positioning himself as a favorite of social conservatives.  The speech from the Baptist pastor was predictably heavy on social issues. Huckabee warned that “a society that sacrifices its own children is no better than the ancient Philistines,” and criticized the Obama administration for its policy requiring contraception coverage in insurance plans, warning they’re impeding on religious liberty. MORE
