31% of Detroit Pregnancies Aborted

Detroit’s abortion rate has reached a staggering 31 percent, new data shows. A total of 5,693 of Detroit’s 18,360 pregnancies in 2012 ended in abortion, while the entire state of Michigan had 22,699 abortions out of 160,219 pregnancies in the same year. The increase in Detroit also comes as abortion rates across the U.S. have flatlined or decreased. “We’re seeing a picture that looks more like some third-world country than someplace in the United States,” said Susan Schooley, chairwoman of the Department of Family Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital. Part of Detroit’s increase, experts say, is thanks to rising poverty. It’s no coincidence the abortion rate peaked in 2008—the worst part of the Great Recession—when 42 percent of women who had abortions were living in poverty. Decreased funding for family planning and contraceptive funding in Michigan is seen as a contributing factor: The budget fell from $5 million to $700,000 in the past seven years, leaving 80,000 people without free family-planning aid. More

Second dead whale found along California coast

A Second whale carcass has landed along the California coast in less than a week. A mammoth whale carcass was seen floating Wednesday afternoon near Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay. ”We are definitely keeping an eye on it,” said Sarah van Schagen, a spokeswoman for the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito. Once the whale washes ashore, a group of researchers will assess the situation and determine an appropriate response, she said. A necropsy will probably be performed on the beach because the whale is too large to transport. Earlier this week, a dead 50-foot fin whale washed ashore below the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant in San Diego.More

Hurricane Amanda has become Strongest on May Record, Earliest Cat 5 on Record

Amanda is now the strongest May hurricane on record in the eastern Pacific basin during the satellite era. If Amanda were to reach an intensity of 140 knots (160 mph), it would become the earliest category 5 hurricane on record, beating out Hurricane Ava of 1973. The hurricane is centered about 770 miles south of the southernmost tip of Baja California. There are no coastal watches and warning in effect, and Amanda is not a direct threat to land during the next five days.

Pope arrives at Church of Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem Seeking “Peace” in the Middle East

Pope Francis arrived on Sunday evening at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, where he was scheduled to meet with the spiritual leader of the world’s Orthodox Christians, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I.  The pope arrived in Israel Sunday afternoon at Ben-Gurion Airport and called for the rights of Palestinians to a sovereign homeland to be recognized, while reiterating Israel’s right to exist in peace. A full guard of honor was prepared for the pontiff, who arrived by helicopter from Bethlehem, where he had made a stop at the security barrier to pray for peace. The pope was greeted by President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and numerous political and religious dignitaries. More

The Apostle Paul and Homosexuality—Answering Homosexual Objections

For almost the entire 2,000 years of recorded Christian history, the apostle Paul’s condemnation of all types of homosexual practice was considered an unquestionable fact of biblical teaching. Not until the sexual revolution of the 1960s did “gay liberation theologians” emerge to dispute and distort the plain reading of Scripture on this subject. And as Michael L. Brown further notes in his excellent book Can You Be Gay and Christian? ”Every major dictionary of New Testament Greek or Classical Greek understood Paul’s key vocabulary (in particular, the word arsenokoites) to refer to men engaging in homosexual acts.” Furthermore, the historic theological consensus expressed no distinction between exploitative (prostitution, rape, pederasty, promiscuity, sex slaves) and non exploitative (consensual, committed, monogamous) forms of homosexuality. The divine prohibition against aberrant homoerotic behavior was considered comprehensive and unequivocal. But that was then, and this is now. More

The Great Deception in the American Church

Consider these statistics of Christianity in America: Eighty-four percent of the inhabitants of this nation say they believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, according to Barna Group, and 45 percent claim to be born-again Christians. Other studies show it is closer to 33 percent. Either way, these numbers are high. Seventy-seven percent believe their chances of going to heaven are excellent. Thirty-three percent believe one day everyone will go to heaven. Yet America has the highest percentage of single-parent families in the industrialized world, the highest abortion rate, the highest rate of sexually transmitted diseases, the highest rate of teenage birth by far, the highest rate of teenage drug use and the largest prison population per capita than any country in the world. Consider also the great moral decline of the last generation (50 to 60 years) and these telling statistics in America. The divorce rate has doubled, teen suicide has tripled, reported violent crime has quadrupled, the prison population has quintupled, the percentage of babies born out of wedlock has risen sixfold, couples living together out of wedlock have increased sevenfold, and gay marriage is now a legalized reality in a number of states, with many believing the end is not in sight. More

Franklin Graham Calls on Pastors to Speak Out on Abortion, Homosexuality; Says ‘God Hates Cowards’

The Rev. Franklin Graham told a large gathering of pastors on Thursday to address controversial issues from the pulpit, declaring that “God hates cowards.” Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, based his remarks on Revelation 21:8, wherein God lists eight groups of people who will be “in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Of groups like murderers, idolaters, unbelievers, and others, the first group of persons listed were the cowardly. It was this first group that Graham focused on for his speech, titled “Standing Strong on the Controversial Issues,” at the Thursday evening session for the 2014 Watchmen on the Wall National Briefing. More

Gun Picture Gets Boy In Trouble

A little boy is in trouble for a picture he drew as part of a school assignment. Second grader Kody Smith was assigned to go outside, look at the clouds, and then use his imagination to draw what he saw. ”Draw a picture of what you see in the clouds from your imagination and that picture is a gun,” explained 8-year-old Kody. Because it was a gun, the teacher at Talbott Elementary in Widefield called him into the office, and then filed a behavior report. His parents say that’s too much. “It hurts. It hurts that he was so scared for being penalized for his imagination,” said Kody’s father, Jeff Smith. “He’s 8 years old. He was doing exactly what he was told to do for the assignment,” said Kody’s mother, Angel Rivers. The report says Kody showed behavior that is disruptive to the entire learning community. The parents were worried that this would be on his permanent school record. The Widefield School District says it will not be. More

Al Qaeda terrorists at Guantanamo treated better than our vets

President Obama finally addressed the nation Wednesday about the growing scandal at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. After meeting with VA Secretary Eric Shinseki he pledged to hold folks accountable. Thanks, Mr. President. By now most American have heard about the VA’s infamous patient “secret wait lists” which reportedly contributed to the deaths of up to 40 veterans in the Phoenix area alone. Those patriots were American heroes who served our country proudly. Yet they were left to die waiting to see a doctor. MoreMAY25

DAYS OF LOT – Homosexual Minister says “Jesus Cool With LGBT Relationships”

The LGBT story archive I’m From Driftwood has just posted a new video featuring an openly homosexual Presbyterian minister recounting his “coming out” story and how he reconciled his “sexual identity” with Christianity, saying Jesus would approve of homosexuality. John Russel Stanger wanted to be a minister even at the age of 10 when he conducted his first-ever church service in his parents’ living room. ”I had a music stand as a pulpit that I put in the center of our living room,” says Stanger, “and I laid out on the coffee table Bibles from around our house and some hymnals, and I wrote out an order of service.” Stanger also stated that one of the first indicators of his homosexuality was him switching robes during his faux-service from minister to choir director with his Texas rancher father unable to understand the theatrics. MoreMAY25

Asteroid crash 290 million years ago may have set Russian meteor on collision course with Earth

Scientists report that the meteorite that rocked Russia early last year may have been sent on a collision course with Earth after smacking into another asteroid as long as 290 million years ago. It’s estimated that the parent asteroid — a much larger object from which the so-called Chelyabinsk meteor broke off — impacted another asteroid in space at anywhere from 800 to 3,350 miles per hour (1,440 – 5,400 km/h). That second asteroid, according to the hypothesis, was at least 500 feet (150m) in diameter, and the impact sent the final 65-foot (20m) wide meteor in Earth’s direction. The findings come after scientists studied small fragments of the Chelyabinsk meteor that made it through the massive explosion in Earth’s atmosphere and landed on the ground. Lead researcher Shin Ozawa, of Japan’s University of Tohoku, and his team found a mineral called jadeite in glass-like veins inside the samples. That mineral could only be produced under massive pressure and heat, such as that from an impact with another asteroid. By studying the shape and structure of the jadeite crystals, they were able to estimate the size, temperature, and duration of the impact. The results were published this week in Scientific Reports. Previously, scientists had used video footage to determine the path of the meteor to Earth, and analysis of the impact found it to be the second largest explosion in recorded history. More
