The Velocity Of Money In The U.S. Falls To An All-Time Record Low

When an economy is healthy, there is lots of buying and selling and money tends to move around quite rapidly.  Unfortunately, the U.S. economy is the exact opposite of that right now.  In fact, as I will document below, the velocity of M2 has fallen to an all-time record low.  This is a very powerful indicator that we have entered a deflationary era, and the Federal Reserve has been attempting to combat this by absolutely flooding the financial system with more money.  This has created some absolutely massive financial bubbles, but it has not fixed what is fundamentally wrong with our economy.  On a very basic level, the amount of economic activity that we are witnessing is not anywhere near where it should be and the flow of money through our economy is very stagnant.  They can try to mask our problems with happy talk for as long as they want, but in the end it will be clearly evident that none of the long-term trends that are destroying our economy have been addressed. More

China denounces US, Japan for “provocative” remarks

China strongly denounced Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and United States Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel Sunday for “provocative” remarks accusing Beijing of destabilising actions in contested regional waters. Lieutenant General Wang Guanzhong, deputy chief of the general staff of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), told an Asian security forum in Singapore that the comments had been “unacceptable”. Abe opened the Shangri-La Dialogue on Friday by urging countries to respect the rule of law — an apparent reference to perceived Chinese aggression over disputed islets in the South and East China seas. Hagel followed on Saturday by warning China against “destabilising actions” in the South China Sea and listed a number of alleged infractions, including against the Philippines and Vietnam. More

Russia takes control of 11 American GPS sites

Russia has “taken under control” the operation of 11 American GPS sites and ensured they cannot be used for military purposes, as Washington and Moscow show no progress in negotiations on setting up Russian GLONASS stations on US territory. May 31 was the last day when Russia and the US could have reached a deal on the issue. “In compliance with the Russian government’s instruction, Roscosmos and the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations implemented measures on June 1, 2014, which excluded the use of information from global seismographic network stations working on signals from the GPS system and located on the territory of the Russian Federation for purposes not stipulated by the existing agreements, including for military purposes,” Russia’s Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) said on Sunday morning. More

89-year-old vet waits 68 years for benefits

I almost lost my Texas cool last week when reading a Fox News report about an 89-year-old wounded World War II veteran who had to wait 68 years since his time on the battlefield to receive benefits. And you thought long waits and mishandling of veteran care was only a recent problem? Milton Rackham of Belding, Michigan, who is also a Purple Heart recipient, lived decades without benefits because the Department of Veterans Affairs said to him that his records were lost in a fire – at least that’s how the VA explained its inability to give him the post-war care he deserved and fought for. More

The Obama administration has taken its corporate-welfare road show to Mexico, where American taxpayers funded a three-day conference over the last week, with an aim to simultaneously subsidize U.S. industry while helping Mexico tap into the U.S. Treasury to fund its national infrastructure plan to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars. Among the highlights of ConnectMEX – the U.S.-Mexico Transport and Telecom Conference – was the U.S. Trade & Development Agency’s unveiling at this Mexico City venue of a “Resource Guide for U.S. Industry on Priority Infrastructure Projects.” More

School time for 4th-graders is usually packed with question-and-answer sessions, but a teacher in New York City has been fired for taking her questions a little too far.  Cassendre Fiering, a 45-year-old substitute instructor at Public School 189 in Bronx, New York, was canned by the Department of Education in December for actually seeking dating advice from her young students. Investigators say the woman, who is also a part-time actress, asked her 9-year-old pupils to help her choose between two men she was dating. She reportedly had the students engage in role-play conversations with her about how she should talk to the gents, both of whom are in their thirties.More

EPA to Seek 30% Cut in Emissions at Power Plants.

President Barack Obama will propose cutting greenhouse-gas emissions from the nation’s power plants by an average of 30 percent from 2005 levels by 2030, according to people briefed on the plans. The proposal, scheduled to be unveiled by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency tomorrow morning, represents one of the boldest steps the U.S. has taken to fight global warming — and a political gamble. Obama signaled both the importance of the rule to his legacy on environmental protection and the bruising fight ahead by joining a conference call today with congressional Democrats, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and White House counselor John Podesta to rally support. More

Medicare Can Pay For Transgender Recipients’ Gender Confirmation Surgeries

 –  Transgender people receiving Medicare may no longer be automatically denied coverage for sex reassignment surgeries, a U.S. Department of Health and Services review board ruled Friday in a groundbreaking decision that recognizes the procedures as a medically necessary and effective treatment for individuals who do not identify with their biological sex. Ruling in favor of a 74-year-old Army veteran whose request to have Medicare pay for her genital reconstruction was denied two years ago, the agency’s Departmental Appeals Board ruled that a three-decade-old HHS rule excluding such surgeries from the procedures covered by the national health program for the elderly and disabled was unjustified. More

America’s Greatest Moral Crisis Is the Lack of God Consciousness

Several years ago my good friend and frequent debating partner, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, challenged me to debate the question, “Is Homosexuality America’s Great Moral Crisis?” My answer was that homosexual activism is certainly a matter of great concern, but our country’s greatest moral crisis is the lack of consciousness of God. What has happened to the fear of the Lord? What has become of holy reverence? Where is the recognition that one day, all of us will give account to the Judge of the whole earth? Almost 25 years ago, in my book How Saved Are We? I wrote a chapter entitled “Whatever Happened to the Fear of God?” Looking back today, almost a quarter-century later, the question is all the more urgent. More

Preaching of Hell continues to be Downplayed and Considered “Religious OCD”!

When she was 12, Jennifer Traig’s hands were red and raw from washing them so much. She’d start scrubbing a half an hour before dinner; when she was done, she’d hold her hands up like a surgeon until her family sat down to eat. Her handwashing compulsions began at the time she was studying for her Bat Mitzvah. She was so worried about being exposed to pork fumes that she cleaned her shoes and barrettes in a washing machine. ”Like a lot of people with OCD, I tended to obsess about cleanliness,” said Traig, now 42. “But because I was reading various Torah portions, I was obsessed with a biblical definition of cleanliness.” Family dinners were awkward for Tina Fariss Barbour, too, as an adolescent. She would concentrate so hard on praying for forgiveness that if anyone tried to interrupt her thoughts, she wouldn’t respond. ”First I had to get rid of all my sins, ask forgiveness, do it in the right way, and then I had to pray for protection,” said Barbour, now 50. “Or, if something bad happened to my family, it would be my fault because I had not prayed good enough.” More

NSA Collecting Millions of Faces From Web Images.

The National Security Agency is harvesting huge numbers of images of people from communications that it intercepts through its global surveillance operations for use in sophisticated facial recognition programs, according to top-secret documents. The spy agency’s reliance on facial recognition technology has grown significantly over the last four years as the agency has turned to new software to exploit the flood of images included in emails, text messages, social media, videoconferences and other communications, the N.S.A. documents reveal. Agency officials believe that technological advances could revolutionize the way that the N.S.A. finds intelligence targets around the world, the documents show. The agency’s ambitions for this highly sensitive ability and the scale of its effort have not previously been disclosed. More

Five of the Most Dangerous Taliban Commanders in U.S. Custody Exchanged for American Captive

The Obama administration announced today that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who has been held by the Taliban for several years, has been freed from his captors. Reading the stories of his newfound freedom it is impossible not to feel joy for Bergdahl and his family. NBC News reports that Bergdahl held up a sign once he was on board an American helicopter that read, “SF?” The operators quickly confirmed that they were in fact U.S. Special Forces: “Yes, we’ve been looking for you for a long time.” More

Israel is to deploy three submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles in the Persian Gulf, the Sunday Times reported on Sunday. According to the Times report, one submarine had been sent over Israeli fears that ballistic missiles developed by Iran, and in the possession of Syria and Hezbollah, could be used to hit strategic sites within Israel, such as air bases and missile launchers. Dolphin, Tekuma, and Leviathan, all German-made Dolphin class submarines of the 7th navy Flotilla, have been reported as frequenting the Gulf in the past, however, according to the Sunday Times report, this new deployment is meant to ensure a permanent naval presence near the Iranian coastline. More
