King Salman orders National Guard to join aggression against Yemen

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has ordered the country’s National Guard, ground forces that exist apart from the Army, to engage in the aggression against neighboring Yemen. The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Tuesday that Salman has urged the mobilization of the ground forces, an army of 100,000 men, and its involvement in the aggression against Yemen. There has been no detail on how the National Guard, which is a parallel army in Saudi Arabia separate from the armed forces run by the Defense Ministry, will operate. National Guard Minister Prince Miteb bin Abdullah said he was “honored” by Salman’s “decision that National Guard forces take part” in the aggression against Yemen. The minister further reported the “complete readiness of all National Guard forces to carry out this role alongside other military bodies.” The Saudi move comes after it dismissed on Monday a call by the United Nations (UN) to immediately halt its airstrikes on the impoverished country of Yemen. Saudi Ambassador to the UN Abdallah al-Mouallimi told Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a meeting that “certain conditions” mentioned in the recently-adopted UN Security Council resolution on Yemen must be met before an immediate ceasefire is implemented.FULL REPORT

Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz Urges Pastors to Preach About Biblical Marriage

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has sent a letter to tens of thousands of pastors nationwide, urging them to preach about biblical marriage the weekend before the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments over states’ rights regarding the definition of marriage. “On Tuesday, April 28, the United States Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in favor of ‘same-sex marriage.’ How will the American church respond?” he asked. “The prophet Daniel described the people who know their God as people who do two things: display strength and take action (Daniel 11:32).” Cruz therefore asked that pastors deliver messages on biblical marriage on Sunday, April 26, and that they lead prayer services on the 28th as the oral arguments are considered. He exhorted Christians to cease being complacent about the matter. “We know that marriage is intended to be sacred, beautiful, and nourishing. If you do not influence your congregation’s understanding of marriage, who will fill the void? Hollywood? Divorce courts?” he asked. “The church has not shared the truth about marriage well; it is time to repent and commit ourselves to courage on this front.”Cruz, the son of an evangelical minister, then stated that the right side of history on the issue is God’s side. FULL REPORT

Feds buying 95,000 rounds with maximum ‘stopping power’

The Department of Justice is seeking to purchase 95,000 rounds of 9mm hollow-point bullets and has posted online a solicitation that requires bids to be submitted by April 30. While such bullets often are used in law enforcement, the federal government’s bulk purchase of ammunition in recent years, including a proposal to buy 1.6 billion bullets, has raised concerns about the government’s need for such supplies. Eyebrows go even higher when the federal government seeks to purchase hollow points, an expanding bullet with a hollow tip designed for “maximizing tissue damage and blood loss or shock,” according to an online explanation. The current solicitation, posted at, is for the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Prisons. In addition to the specified 95,000 rounds of “9 mm Lugar Jacketed Hollow Point 115 Grain” bullets, it also seeks 46,000 rounds of .223 caliber 55 grain full metal jacket bullets and 4,750 rounds of 12 gauge shotgun shells. The deal will be completed through a “reverse auction” in which prospective sellers will submit lower and lower bids for supplies that meet the government’s demands. The government warns: “Offers may not artificially manipulate the price of a transaction on by any means. It is unacceptable to place bad faith bids, to use decoys in the process or to collude with the intent or effect of hampering the competitive process.” Also, no remanufactured or “gray market” materials are acceptable. FULL REPORT

10 U.S. states now considering mandatory vaccination

Thanks to the hysteria over the recent measles outbreak in California, several states are now considering authoritarian measures that will require vaccination of children in nearly all cases, regardless of a parent’s religious or philosophical objections. As reported by Reuters, as many as 10 states are considering tougher new measures that remove choice for the most part and take vaccination control out of the hands of parents, after more than 150 people in 17 states became ill with measles – some of them who had already been vaccinated against the disease.Reuters further noted: The proposed laws have been introduced in statehouses by both Democrats and Republicans and include a range of approaches, from requiring schools to post immunization rates to entirely eliminating religious and philosophical exemptions. But they all respond to one undeniable fact: Most of the recent measles cases have been in people who were not vaccinated against the disease. FULL REPORT

Rare Oarfish, Stuff Of Sea Monster Legends, Washes Up In New Zealand, Then Vanishes

A bizarre-looking ocean fish that marine experts say could be the origin of some “sea monster” legends washed ashore in New Zealand last week — then mysteriously disappeared. The nearly 10-foot-long oarfish was found at a salt marsh near Otago Harbor in Aramoana on Thursday, the Otago Daily Times reports. The local who found the scaly animal called Department of Conservation service manager David Agnew, who said it’s the first time he’s spotted such a creature in his 20 years on the job. Agnew told the Daily Mail he had never even heard of an oarfish before. “It’s incredibly rare to see them in New Zealand,” he said. Researchers from the Otago Museum took some samples of the fish for study, but did not have the resources to remove and preserve the entire carcass, natural science curator Emma Burns told the Otago Daily Times. She noted they had not determined the sex and age of the fish, but did know that the critter consumed a “big feed of krill” before its demise. FULL REPORT

Brazilians protest corrupt government, demand resignations; Americans still complacent with U.S. corruption

It is said that people will get the kind of government they tolerate, no matter what sort of system they initially adopt. For an increasing number of Brazilians, however, their tolerance has run out; apparently, they can only take so much corruption. Recently hundreds of thousands of Brazilians poured onto the streets of cities all across the country to demand the dismissal of President Dilma Rousseff, for corruption. The public’s ire grew dramatically following revelations that Rousseff was the recipient of a kickback scheme involving the state-run Petrobras oil company, which prosecutors have said is the largest corruption scandal in the country’s history. As reported by Voice Of America: At least $800 million was paid in bribes and other funds by the nation’s biggest construction and engineering firms in exchange for inflated Petrobras contracts. Dozens of political figures, including close allies of the president, and former Petrobras executives, are under investigation. No one has been convicted yet, but 22 deputies, 13 senators and two governors have been implicated in the bribe-taking allegations. Some of the alleged wrongdoing took place while Rousseff was chairman of the Petrobras board. She is not being investigated. FULL REPORT

Military ops on U.S. soil raise martial-law fears

Jade Helm 15 is set to kick off in seven states this summer, sending Special Operations forces from all four main branches of the military onto civilian soil to conduct hostile take-over training – and civil-rights advocates are sounding the alarms. This is how the military describes it: “The nature of warfare is always changing and U.S. Army Special Operations Command’s mission is to make certain the Army’s various Special Operations Forces are trained, equipped and organized to successfully conduct worldwide special operations in support of our nation’s interests,” said command spokesman Army Lt. Col. Mark Lastoria, in a statement to the Washington Post a few weeks ago. “Training exercise Jade Helm is going to assist our Special Operations Soldiers and leadership in refining the skills needed against an ever changing foreign threat.”But plenty on social media aren’t calmed by the explanation, in part remembering the recent similar operation in Broward County, Florida, that saw Blackhawk helicopters flying above community streets while soldiers loaded citizen participants into white vans for transport to internment camps. It was all a staged exercise but for those watching, the scenes that unfolded were alarming. FULL REPORT
